PBK member spotlight: Beatrix Killeen
Very happy to be introducing you to the first PBK member spotlight, Beatrix. I first got to know Beatrix at a Saturday morning Pilates class in Birr and she has been a PBK member since, also attending our first PBK event at the beautiful Cloughjordan House. I loved reading all about Beatrix and getting to know her a little more. Read on for words of wisdom from Beatrix as well her go to salmon-bowl recipe, her favourite PBK classes and what she’s currently reading.
Where are you located?
My name is Beatrix Killeen, I’m 30 years old and based in Eyrecourt, Co. Galway.
How did you discover Pilates?
I first started doing Pilates about a year ago when I was looking for
something extra to do alongside traditional weight training.
It has totally changed the game for me (and my body)!
My posture has improved hugely, I’m a lot more flexible,
and I find my range of motion is much more fluid during
my weight training sessions.
What's your favourite class on the PBK platform?
I switch between a few depending on how much time I have,
but I find the 15-minute Core Strength and
Flexibility class brilliant for a quick session during
work when I’m feeling stiff from sitting all day.
And for the important stuff – what is your favourite food
or do you have a favourite recipe you’d like to share with us?
I’m a bit of a foodie, so this is a hard one to answer! In the winter,
when things are quieter on the farm,
I always look forward to a steak made by my husband,
with a side of greens and lots of pepper sauce.
This time of year, I love a nourishing salmon
bowl with rice and lots of bright veggies.
I’ll be sharing my go-to salmon bowl
recipes on my Instagram soon! (@beatrixkilleen)
Are you working on anything personally or professionally at the moment?
I work in a corporate job full time and on our dairy farm part time.
Both are roles where ‘the work is never really done,’
so I find there’s always a new goal or challenge popping up.
Personally, I’m trying to learn more about food,
different flavours, and nutrition, and I’m also trying my
hand at content creation on social media as a hobby.
I’ve got a few interesting projects coming up this summer that
would be totally out of my comfort zone, so I’m really excited for those!
Do you have a daily non-negotiable or self-care habit?
It can be quite hard to prioritise self-care at this stage of life, but my non-negotiable is my skincare routine. It’s always paired with coffee in the morning, and with some essential oils in a diffuser in the evening. It’s my way of signalling to my brain when to switch on and off!
Are you reading anything at the moment?
I LOVE a good thriller, so at the moment it’s What Have You Done? by Shari Lapena. I listen to it as an audiobook on spotify.
Do you have any advice that has impacted you and wish to share?
“Control the controllable.” So simple, but I think it’s really important to identify the things that are out of your control and accept those - but also to be proactive and take responsibility for the things that are within your control.
