About Michaela

Hi everyone, welcome to Pilates by Keala. I would like to share a little bit about myself.


My name is Michaela Morkan and I live in a small village called Shinrone in County Offaly, with my husband Sean and our little girl, Grace. We have two dogs, a cat, and two pygmy goats. I love animals and enjoy spending time outdoors with them. 

 

After completing secondary school, I went to University College Galway, where I obtained my Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Microbiology. I then went on to St Mary's University, Twickenham to complete a Post-Graduate Certificate in Science Teaching and a few years later a Postgraduate Diploma in Inclusive and Special Education at National University of Maynooth, Ireland.


​Alongside my interest in science and teaching, I have a deep passion for sport and exercise. I recently retired from Inter- County Camogie following a period of 17 years with Offaly, two of which I commuted from London for training and matches. A few years ago, I suffered from a number of hamstring injuries and my Physio recommended Pilates to me. Pilates quickly transformed into a new passion, inspired by the profound benefits it offered. I became so interested in the practice that I trained as a Pilates instructor myself.


When Covid hit, I started teaching online classes and I was able to work with people and teams from all over the country. I continued to teach online and in-person classes alongside my fulltime teaching job for the last couple of years. Recent maternity leave from school has given me the opportunity to focus on personal projects and goals, allowing me to create my online studio.


Over time I have developed my own style of Pilates and I have tried to create encouraging, real, and feel good classes to suit everyone. Once you experience the profound connection between body, muscles, and mind, you'll find it essential to integrate Pilates by Keala into your daily routine.
